Leslie is an inspirational motivational speaker and has touched lives all across the country. Leslie is an anchor and reporter at KSAT-12 in San Antonio, Texas. She has covered many stories during her career, but in October 2000 she began reporting on the most important story of her life. Her own.

At the age of 35, she discovered a lump in her left breast during a monthly self-exam. That lump turned out to be cancer. Rather than hide and wallow in self-pity, she decided to confront her cancer with cameras close behind. Her entire battle, on tape, for the public to see. Surgery, chemotherapy, hair loss, radiation – a private battle – made public in hopes of helping other women.

She is a volunteer for American Cancer Society and a board member of WINGS, a non-profit group dedicated to providing care to women with breast cancer who don’t have insurance. . Leslie’s family, Air Force pilot, Major Tony “Maddog” Mattox, and daughter Nicole, have been, and continue to be, her strength and support through her battle with cancer.

Leslie has appeared on Good Morning America, Inside Edition, Oprah Winfery Show, Primetime Thursday, ABC News, and the Weekend Today Show.

Leslie's presentation begins with a video of the story Primetime 20/20 did on her to familiarize the audience with her story. That 20/20 story started the massive media attention she began to receive when she started her awareness campaign by being the first anchor (who was fighting breast cancer) to boldly do an on-air broadcast with no hair. That one step started a battle that she fought and won, in a very public way. She was a guest on Oprah, Good Morning America, and The Today Show. Inside Edition and PBS did feature stories on her public battle, and she contributed her story to the book, "The Breast Cancer Book of Strength and Courage". Each chapter is written by a survivor, her story is Chapter One "Bless Me Lord and My Bald Head too". Her openness with her battle also accelerated the public dialogue about breast cancer prevention and cures that continues today. Her presentation is titled "It's All About Attitude"... she discusses dealing with adversity with a positive attitude and finding the blessings in even the seemingly most difficult times of your life. It's mixed with emotion and laughs, hard truths and self exploration! ...less
