Developing a Comic Vision
Used professionally humor is not about telling jokes, laughing at others or being a "comedian". It is about consistently and effectively using humor as a business skill for yourself and your internal and external customers. Just as leadership skills can be learned, so can anyone learn to use humor as a business skill if they choose to use their Comic Vision. Choosing to develop and use your own Comic Vision enables anyone to be able to harness humor to refresh and renew themselves in between negative situational stress factors they encounter, how to deal with toxic people and psychic vampires, how to use humor appropriately as a business skill and decrease "hassles" while increasing their "like-ability". Laugh and learn with Tim as he shares his proven methods for developing your own Comic Vision.
Change the Game, Don't Lose Your Marbles
In the world of work, it's a problem when bench warmers who constantly coast by choice get paid the same as those who excel by intention. Yet it's part of most of the games we play, whether we like it or not. Perhaps you've heard the idiom , there are no rules. Well, there are rules to every game, but some are fixed, some are flexible, and some become obsolete during the game. What's more, some rules apply to some players, some players seem exempt from the rules, some get away with it, some do not. In the workplace, people experience conflicting rules, contradictory guidelines, and confusing policies. Yet, once you understand the basics of any game, you have three options... You can play the existing game, quit it, or change it. But can one person actually change the game? Without a doubt, the answer is yes. The secret lies in applying easy-to-understand and hard-to-forget concepts that you can use immediately (or choose to disregard and continue to coast). Within your organization, how can all employees best play the game that achieves their most successful outcomes? Answering that question led me to create a new content-rich, laughter-filled program using the game of "marbles" as a metaphor for the game of work.
Leadership, The Tao of Humor
We live in difficult times. Doing more with less is not the exception it is the rule and supervisors, and managers are also tasked to inspire their "troops" to be able to do all the work with just a fraction of the staffing and resources they need. Today's leaders need all the help they can get. The effective use of laughter and good humor is just one of the most often overlooked of the leadership tools. Used professionally humor is not about telling jokes, laughing at others or being a "comedian". It is about consistently and effectively using humor as a business skill for yourself and your internal and external customers. Leaders create compelling futures that employees want to be a part of. Humor is just one of the tools available to any great leader. Today, almost everyone has heard of, or read about, how humor can be used in the workplace. However, when humor occurs during work time it can have a very positive or an equally negative effect. Harnessed positively, good humor can be a strategic skill and act as a positive factor in communication, morale and stress reduction. However, bad humor can become a negative factor in the same areas while becoming a source of complaints, employee rights violations and litigation. In this workshop Tim explores good humor guidelines that private industry and state and federal groups can do to positively harness humor and avoid the potentially negative effects.
