Dat Phan will always hold the title as the very first winner of NBC’s hit show Last Comic Standing. Dat was born in Saigon, Vietnam and immigrated with his mother to San Diego as a child. Moving to LA to pursue his dream of becoming a comic, he lived out of his car and was even robbed at gunpoint—but that wouldn’t stop him to pursue his dream of being a top comedian. Dat took a risk and auditioned for NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and was named the funniest person in America on August 5th, 2003.

His youthful energy and truly unique life experiences combine to create a stand-up performance you will not soon forget. His message of living your dreams and reaching out for the stars is inspiring to all audiences. Dat’s comedy has been featured at colleges and the top comedy clubs across the US including the World Famous Improv, The Comedy Store, The Ice House and the Laugh Factory. With appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with Craig Kilborn, BET’s Comic View, and Nickelodeon’s Danny Phantom, Dat even starred in his own Comedy Central Special.

Dat’s culturally insightful comedy inspects ridiculous stereotypes, and he shares his experience of being a regular American guy with a Vietnamese heritage. He has been included in The Smithsonian Institution’s exhibition of The Top 10 Most Influential Vietnamese-American Individuals.

Dat Phan’s mission is to bring a more positive portrayal of Asian-Americans to mainstream entertainment and Hollywood. “We want to be seen as more than just martial artists, or bad stereotype token roles in American TV & Movies.”
