He attended Florida A&M University, majoring in Business Administration, and received a 3-year Army ROTC scholarship. After completing two summer internships at Apple Computer, he was offered a full-time Systems Engineer position while still a full-time business administration student. He has a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University. He completed Executive Education at Harvard Business School: Governing Non-profits for Excellence, and he’s currently completing a Doctorate in Business Administration with a concentration in leadership at Walden University. After graduating from college with honors, Jemal served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. He was selected to the Commandant’s List for graduating in the top 10% of his Infantry Officer Basic Course, and he completed the US Army Elite Airborne School and the Special Operations Ranger School. His military career ended early after sustaining a life-altering injury.
Jemal has held numerous positions at some of America’s top companies, including Apple, Pfizer, Mayo Clinic, and, most recently, McKesson, where he served as Vice President of Sales. Throughout his career, he’s led, developed, and trained thousands of people and generated 25+ billion dollars in revenue, which speaks to one of his favorite mantras: “Develop People – Deliver Results.”
As a motivational speaker, Jemal is a gifted communicator. He’s delivered inspiring, life-changing messages to Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and other organizations throughout the United States and in some parts of the world. He’s received numerous awards and accolades, including being inducted into the Hall of Fame at the School of Business & Industry at Florida A&M University (FAMU), receiving a Martin Luther King Leadership Award, being inducted into Marquis Who’s Who in America, and being named Most Inspiring Leader, to name a few.
As an author, his first book, Drugs: My Curse, My Savior, is a heart-wrenching memoir that chronicles the triumph of the human spirit through one man’s journey to escape the surroundings that threaten to destroy him. Born to parents addicted to drugs, Jemal was forced to navigate the illegal world of drugs, poverty, and violence. Drugs: My Curse, My Savior recounts Jemal’s tumultuous journey from the dangerous streets of Chicago’s West Side to becoming a successful corporate executive. It is an incredibly intertwined duality of legal and illegal drugs. The book has been converted into a screenplay and mini-series, so coming to a screen near you. His second book, “The 3 Spirations,” will be available soon. It’s a professional and personal guide for those who need a reminder that, if you believe ~ Anything is Possible!
As a philanthropist, Jemal believes “you make a living by what you earn, and you make a life by what you give.” Jemal has served on many boards, spent countless hours volunteering in the community, and donated to numerous institutions over the years. He established the Jemal Gibson & Family Endowed Scholarship at FAMU. As a separate initiative, driven by his own college experience of almost failing several classes because he didn’t own a suit, which was mandatory, he partnered with Cintas and provided hundreds of eco-friendly, machine-washable suits to students in need at FAMU. Watching his family struggle with substance abuse and homelessness spurred his support of homeless shelters and rehab facilities around the country.
Jemal is an active member of numerous organizations, most notably Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, and the National Society of Pershing Rifles. His life’s mission: to give money where money is needed, to give knowledge where knowledge is needed, and to give love where love is needed. And it’s evident he’s doing just that. Jemal resides in Atlanta, where he raised three amazing daughters and three awesome nephews.
